Right Care
Through our diverse range of products, Baxter can support your treatment of a patient throughout the patient pathway from admission to hospital, through surgery, to providing care in the home. Some examples are:
Home
Management of Renal failure currently consumes 3% of the overall NHS budget, a significant spend for any trust.1 However, if 30% of established renal failure patients were treated at home, it could save the NHS £100 million.2 More importantly it could provide patients with a choice of having their therapy at home allowing them to continue leading a more 'normal' life. You might say this is a win, win.
Use our dialysis capacity planning tool to quickly estimate the savings that could be generated by changing your mix of dialysis patients.
Hospital
Suprane is a clinically effective anaesthetic agent offering rapid induction and recovery from anaesthesia and therefore supports the current Enhanced Surgical Recovery initiative. By focussing on the total care pathway rather than silo's of cost for individual budgets the Payer can look at the total picture and make cost savings. These are based on improved profitability of surgical procedures, tariff reimbursement and a sliding scale of profitability based on bed days and patient recovery.
In Surgery

Products in Baxter's Biosurgery portfolio include biologics and devices used to stop bleeding. By reducing blood loss they can help prevent the need for blood replacement products.
Scenario | HOME:
I'd rather be at home
Chronic kidney failure is a life-changing condition, but it doesn't have to change every aspect of your life.
Having kidney stones and being diabetic meant that Mavis' kidneys eventually failed so that she would need dialysis.
After a period being treated in hospital three times a week on haemodialysis, Mavis decided to choose to treat herself at home, using PD.
Rather than being tied to regular hospital visits Mavis now performs four exchanges a day, at home. She is able to visit her family regularly and go on holiday, thanks to PD.

Scenario | HOSPITAL:
The use of Suprane
Consultant anaesthetist, Dr. King, anaesthetised 32-year-old Lizzie for elective surgery. He noticed, following the three hour procedure, that she recovered extremely quickly from the anaesthesia, and was able to assist in her movement from the operating table. She was fully conscious, with her endotracheal tube removed, when she was taken to Recovery.
There she was able to sit up unaided and drink a little water, without drooling or coughing. She was ready for discharge back to the ward shortly after.

Scenario | IN SURGERY:
The use of Tisseel in Hernia surgery
53-year-old Phillip had large inguinal hernias. His right side was operated on a few years ago. He had a difficult year with pain and sometimes found it difficult to continue working for a year after his operation.
He was worried having the left side done. However, he need not have worried. This time his experience has been much better and with less pain. He asked his consultant what was different this time. The answer was simple; the mesh used to repair the hernia was fixed with fibrin glue instead of sharp metal tacks.
