Urgent Care
Enabling Efficiency
It's quite often the 'back office' that drives hospital efficiency and builds optimal management, but it isn't always considered as part of the bigger picture to generate cost savings and improve processes. Baxter is well known for its service provision - from providing the skill of managing inventories, to providing tailored solutions for oncology and nutrition patients with both oncology and nutrition needs.
Productive Care
Linked to our service provision is our understanding of the need to maximise resources, whilst meeting the highest level of patient safety. We provide the assurance that you can deliver cost effective programmes in line with government patient safety guidelines for best-demonstrated clinical practice. This is particularly important in compounding oncology drugs and delivering injectable medicines technologies to improve patient safety.
Medicine Uses
& Procurement

Purchasing for safety - now more than ever you need to reduce risk, cost and hospital waste. A number of our medical devices support the "Productive Ward" scheme. We can work to support purchasing decisions which maximise patient and staff safety, without increasing budgets or compromising best practice. We have built a patient safety calculator that allows you to assess your risk, and achieve cost savings.
Case Study | ENABLING EFFICIENCY:
Hospital A
Hospital A had a small pharmacy store with limited pallet racking facilities. When deliveries of IV fluids were made to the hospital, boxes of fluids had to be unloaded from the pallets and restacked by hand in order to fit into their storage racking. When wards ordered IV fluids, pallets had to be loaded by hand and then shipped to each ward.
Hospital A changed their supplier to Baxter who provided boxes of IV fluids in the correct configuration to allow them to place the pallets directly onto their storage racking without having to unload and restack pallets. Baxter also delivered pallets containing individual wards orders direct without the need to go through the pharmacy stores. This led to less stock being held within the pharmacy stores and saved a lot of time and work in packing, unpacking and moving IV fluids around the hospital.
Offering | PRODUCTIVE CARE:
Safety
The NPSA Safety Alert 20, announced in 2007, highlighted the clinical issues associated with injectable medicines and launched a mandatory action plan to ensure all hospital Trusts identified their risks and implemented improvements.
To support you, Baxter has led and run and number of workshops around the NPSA alert and also offer a range of ready-to-use preparations, devices to assist drug reconstitution, aseptic compounding services, consultancy and training tools.
Case Study | MEDICINE USES & PROCUREMENT:
NHS/Baxter Partnership to provide Compounding support to a Trust
The requirement for aseptically prepared product that is patient specific is increasing. Chemotherapy treatments are increasing 10% year on year. As a result of this, a NHS Foundation Trust decided to outsource all of its compounding services to Baxter. Through this partnership, Baxter is helping the Trust control the risk of infection and medication error. Capacity planning also provides reassurance that production and supply can be stepped up as needed.
